EU set to drop roaming charges from June 2017

Making calls, sending texts and using the internet to cost the same in any country of the EU starting from 15 June

Europeans will be able to use their phones without fear of racking up huge bills starting from this summer after officials in Brussels confirmed they are on course to put an end to roaming charges.

Under the agreement - which still needs to be confirmed by the full European Parliament and all member states - making calls, sending texts and using the internet will now cost the same in any country of the EU, starting from 15 June.

Should make traveling throughout Europe easier and more convenient.

So hopefully, we can buy a single sim in the EU and use it all over? Assuming this gets passed in all the countries including the UK?

I assume this covers data - so it should reduce costs for those who make IP calls, but to answer your question.

Me - I refuse to accept Whatapp / IP calls because of data caps and dodgy voice quality (happens to me... all.... the ... time...)

My preference is: Email, followed by Whatsapp / Hangouts for urgent short messages and then a phone call.

Yes, this is one of the greatest plans I'm aware of! Even includes HK, US of A and Indonesia! But it doesn't include *all* EU countries. There are time restrictions as well.
