Google Photos deleted all the photos on my phone

I pressed "Free Up Space" by accident.

There was no warning before deleting all my photos.

It did not ask "Are you sure?"

It cannot be cancelled, which I desperately tried.

    It cannot be stopped

    It cannot be restored.

Ten minutes later, Google Photo deleted all of the photos (a few hundreds) on my phone.

Of course you can. You can also write a strongly worded letter to your congress man. Or you could just download them all again from the cloud.

Is it an iPhone? The photos are in the 'recently deleted' folder in the Photos app - unless you went there and deleted them also...

Thanks, I have a few thousands up the cloud.

How do I know which few hundreds were recently deleted from my phone?

    Try looking at them
Unfortunately there is no way to undo the "free up space". All of your photos are still on the cloud and can be used as if they were still on your phone with the Google Photo app. The whole point of the Google Photo app is to have the photos on the cloud.

    thanks, great idea.

So if I like to look at the photos I have taken last week or four months ago, do I now go to Google Photo?

I just looked at the "Trash" can of my phone.

    It's empty.

Yes, exactly. You won't notice they are gone from your phone when looking at them through Google Photos. You can also share them to other apps from there, eg. Whatsapp, Facebook etc. If you want to attach them directly from within WhatsApp you must press the three dots and choose Google Photos once you are in the Gallery view.

samsung phone uploads photos to google photos, once uploaded it asks you if you want to free up space which deletes all the photos n videos from your phone. if you want it back then go to google photos and select all the months of photos you want and download it to your computer or back to your phone. easy peasy la

mrgoodkat, nivek2046 and spode like this.
