Quick question if I may. If I just want a cheap data sim to put in a tablet/ laptop that isn't going to be my main machine, not going to have intensive use/ downloadin, what's the best/ cheapest option please? Cheers

Lol, been looking at that myself.

A few options are ValueGB (think its on smartone network). Something like HKD48 for 8GB a year. Or another options seems to be Luck Sim (think its on CSL network) HKD38 5GB a year. Not sure on speeds.

CMHK is around HKD148 for 30GB and 3HK is HKD120 for 12GB. Both per year.

Btw anyone aware of any data SIM cards that offer unlimited time? Or do all of them have some sort of time validity?

As in no expiration? Not aware of that ... my data on a prepaid SIM expires in 365 days from purchase.

There're 2 types of prepaid SIM in HK: "normal" ones that have expiry date adjusted after you refill balance (which should not be a big deal, you will get several SMS reminders before expiry), and some are fixed-term (e.g. some 365 days data SIMs from China Mobile) that not possible to extend at all.

I can confirm that the above is true.
I had a SIM about to expire, and I was outside of HK. When I got back to HK, I refilled it and its validity got bumped to another 356 days. Now that I know how it works, I could just refill remotely, via their app.

most allow you to refill on their web pages as well if you can remember the phone number.
