While talking in sim1, sim2 can't receive sms

    I am using Samsung A20..

Anyone else has similar experience with?

I want to buy a phone that can do those two things at the same time? What do I look for?

    Any recommendation would be appreciated..

    Thank you

Most "dual SIM" phones have one single radio receiver...
They do support something called Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), which means both are active at the same time and can receive calls, but when one is engaged in a call (and as such, using the radio), the other becomes disabled.

To do calls on a single phone at the same time, your phone should support DSA, and both your carriers support (and you have enabled) to do calls over voLTE.

    thanks..

    (1) do i need to enable VoLTE for both Sim1 and Sim2? do both the carriers of Sim1 and Sim2 need to support VoLTE?

    (2) i am calling the bank (ie a fixed line) using Sim1. A fixed line obviously doesn't support VoLTE. Even if I have enabled VoLTE for Sim1, would my Sim2 be able to receive SMS (with or without VoLTE)?

    (3) Do I need to enable VoLTE for Sim2? it's just receiving SMS.

    1. I wrote "both". So yes, means both

    2. Doesn't matter..a landline does not support GSM/3G/4G either..there are gateways to connect your call to things like landlines

    3. As I said, if you want to receive SMS while the other sim is engaged in a call..yes. SMS can be delivered encapsulated in SIP (if your carrier gw support it)

If my phone is Dual Standby only (not Dual Active), then my sim2 cannot receive SMS even if I have enable VoLTE for both sim1 and sim2.

    Have I understood this correctly?

Correct. But the features are not always labelled accurately by manufacturers (or on review sites), so if you are in a position where both your carriers support voLTE and you can enable and try it... I'd do that as first step.
I remember you wrote you use a Samsung A20 - but honestly I don't know what that specific model does or don't
