    1G Smartone/CMHK is around the 100-120/month range - 2 year commitments.

It's crazy dealing with them. I was just trying to cancel a land line, and they just could not accept my reasoning and were basically bullying me into keeping it even though i didn't need it. I was like borderline harassment.

It's true, they do get in touch quite early before your contract ends. For my mobile plan, they offered a good deal, so I went ahead and renewed early. However, for my home fibre broadband, the renewal offer was actually pricier than my existing plan. They also contacted me rather frequently about it, which got a bit much. Ultimately, they lowered the price at the last minute, and I ended up renewing.

My contract with HKT stipulates a monthly price that is twice what I'm actually paying. Within the contract period, a discount is applied. Theoretically, they would start charging the actual contracted rate after expiry.

OK, fair enough. I'm in a serviced apartment now, but the HKBN contract I had for 8 years from 2014 said

Dear Customer, Service Registration Confirmation Notification
Thank you for choosing Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited ("HKBN") services. Please check your service registration details as follows:
    INSTALLATION TIME
    Installation date(Y/M/D) : 2014/05/08
    Installation time : 16:30-18:30

    ACCESS PLAN
Service : Broadband Internet, HKBN Wi-Fi
    Speed type : 100M
    Contract period : Not applicable
Special monthly fee within contract : 100M + HKBN Wi-Fi Plan: $188; the special monthly fee will be valid from the effective date for 24 months
Plan prepayment : $0(Once this prepaid amount is settled, it will be rebated starting from the 1st month of the contract period)
    Installation fee : $380
After contract period (i.e. Standard) monthly fee : Not applicable
    Liquidated damages : Not applicable
I guess you could interpret what happens after 24 months in different ways from that. But what happened was that I simply ignored all their invitations to sign a new contract, and the service continued for $188/month up until July 2022 when I sold the apartment.

Indeed .. one might almost mistake them for a property developer.
