Hi. I notice many of the mobile carriers in Hong Kong, when they offer the cheaper 5G plans for mobile phones, they usually have a 1 Mbps (mega bits per second?) data limit term in their clause. I guess this means the speed is limited to 1 Mbps. My understanding is that 5G can easily go over 100 Mbps, but these are cheap 5G plans so they are throttling you.
I'm on a cheap 4G plan now with CSL, and I don't even know what the maximum speed is, but I can generally watch Youtube videos up to 720p, and stream Twitch at 360p, and it works well enough. Surfing the web on a browser is usually okay.
Is anybody on a 5G, 1Mbps plan, in Hong Kong? May I ask what is your experience, and are you able to watch Youtube and watch other live streams (up to 720p?) without too many problems?
Edit: On Smartone's site, for the cheap 30GB 5G plan at the bottom, it clearly says, "Speed up to 1 Mbps" for the 30 GB plan: https://www.smartone.com/en/home/mob...ns/5G-listing/
This would imply that whenever you use the plan, the speed is capped to 1Mbps, but maybe they mean the speed is only 1 Mbps if you exceed your 30 GB monthly usage - the advertisement is confusing (they should clearly write it's 1 Mbps only if you exceed 30 GB for that month if that's what they mean).
