It also allows you to make calls from other phones (like, a friends phone, if you register the number, so you can do that and know you are not running up their bills!)
You need to have a phone number in order to register, which aussiedave doesn't have yet. Also, almost all of them require a HK ID card.

This is the one I use. I just looked online - HKID OR Passport is fine. And he will have a number just as soon as his Aunt buys a SIM and tells him what it is.... or he can use a relative's number to get started and add his mobile number later.....

Thanks for everyone's kind advice. One way or another I will get connected with a pre paid. I will send a letter (Snail Mail) to my Aunt asking her to get me one for me. She is not on the internet, don't know why! She got my wife and I our Octopus cards last time and that was one of the best transportation cards I have used.

    Thanks again!

i run two businesses and i was able to manage a couple of days at a time not being in touch. your comapny shouldn't fall to pieces without you for 2 days... if it does, your staffing sucks and you should be replacing them.

G'day Guys and Gals. Spoke to my Aunt, she said to get either go the China Mobile Overview_China Mobile Hong Kong as you guys suggested or one2free. How is the coverage of these 2 carriers? (forgot to ask her!)

Another thing she said which would be very helpful was that she activate the card in HK before sending this to me, that way when I arrive in Macau it's a goer! I wont be there till October, so she could activate this say early September before sending it to OZ. What do you people think? This sounds better to me.

    Just a quicky?

When I am in HK, to call local is just the 8 digits. Is this correct or do I have to add the 852 before the 8 digits.

    Thanks

Just the 8 digits, but it will work with +852 in front as well. Simply 852 followed by 8 digits will fail (or possibly route to the local number formed by 852 and the first 5 digits of the 8 were such a number to be allocated)
