Peoples China / China Mobile - Readers opinion 2009

    Dear Geoexpat members,

i diiged in the forum to read more about the China mobile - Peoples quality of service in Hong Kong.

I travel much in China and i am looking for a good service providers offering Data plan and 1 numbers for both China and HK.

I heard peoples coverage and spped may not be at its top. These remarks were posted in 2006 on the forum.

Since China Mobile took over Peoples there was probably some changes.

Can you folks share your experience on Peoples network and their data plan ?

Anyone using there 1 SIM card 2 numbers service ?

i look forward to read from you all.

    Thanks

i have peoples at present and use it for their unlimited data plan. they seem to be fine. reception is generally not a problem, however i have noticed i do lose reception than the other two networks i have been with in the past (csl and vodafone), but they are by far the cheapest.

afraid i have no experience of their 1 china number service.

I also use their unlimited data plan, and they are fine. Unlike PCCW, they leave me alone. It's nice not having to worry about some fucker trying to trick you into adding services to your existing plan all the time.

i too have been using Peoples unlimited data plan + airtime package. they are the cheapest on the market, and it's more reliable than 3 i've heard.

Peoples has been doing a pretty good job (given its customer base... many china guys are using their 1 sim 2 numbers thingie), they have pretty good coverage in china too (my frd's opinion)

shame they don't offer 3g though, 2g speeds are generally fine, but there are times when it is like being back to using dial up. But hey, can't really complain for price!

China Mobile pretty much has the best coverage in the Mainland, though I wasn't so impressed with their coverage here in the NT. Their customer service was better than voda/3 (because, as others mentioned, they left me alone), and they always had employees with excellent Mandarin (a plus for me).

When I was in the Mainland permanently I preferred China Unicom, but a) the coverage isn't as reliably good outside the east coast, and b) I don't like the 2-in-1 services offered by them here.
