Iphone upgrade, Do you have to pay for the apps again?

    Hi Guys

    As per title really.

My Iphone 3G is on its way out and typically just outside of warranty so before it totally shuts down on me again for an hour, I was wondering that if I buy a 3GS and synch it using my existing Itunes account for my 3G, Would I need to pay for all the apps etc again before I can transfer to the new phone?

jimbo - no you do not have to pay for the apps again. All the upgraded apps just show up on itunes or appstore thingy on the phone.

When you connect your new phone with itunes, itunes will ask you whether you want to restore/sync your old phone details onto the new one. All your contacts, applications and so on will be transferred onto the new phone. I had to do that twice when I got replacement phones due to hardware problems.

Good to know Apple still makes quality products.

    (Sorry... could not resist it!)

They sent me a last chance e-mail the other day too to renew the warranty for another 2 years for $500 and I of course refused.

    Typical.

ive had my 3G since almost opening launch and its got not a scratch on it...and running as good as 1st day or better. i have jailbreaked it every update, run countless cracked apps, and have dropped my phone repeatedly.

    id say thats quality.

2 things you should keep in mind Jimbo:
#1 - app syncing is free up to 5 devices. you just need to authorize each with same itunes account. my household has 3 macs and 2 iphones all authorized, so i can buy an app once, and sync it between all. Doesnt matter if iphone is 2G, 3G or 3Gs. Deauthroize the one you are getting rid of, and buy the new one then activate and authorize it. thats it.

#2 - updating apps is different and is usually free. BUT, some developers will charge more money if they feel the update is significant. just like adobe does every new major # upgrade.
