I'm not in HK now. I've been away for 9 days so far and had not calls until yesterday. Since then I've had three.

They must have backlog and I am at the front of the list now. I am expecting them to war dial me until I return later this week.

All the Marketing companies that phone numbers start with 3xxx-xxxx

That's because they were all on National Day/mid-Autumn holidays. China was basically closed for 6 days.

I can't offer any suggestion to the roaming conspiracy theory but when I receive these here in HK, I simply start talking in English and the call ends rather quickly.

    *ring*
    *answer* "Hello?"
*in chinese* "Hi, I'm calling on behalf of......blah blah blah"
*interrupt* "Hellooooo? Hello? Do you speak english?"
    *embarassed* "Oh uhhh...sorry" *click*

Is there a pattern that you can observe on Caller ID?

Vodafone has kindly solved this problem for me. My %$## SIM appears not to work anywhere outside HK right now!

I put the phone aside and let them talk. Way I figure .. more time of theirs wasted the lower their call volumes.
