suggested carrier for iphone 3GS <2yrs?

what are everyone's suggestions for getting the iPhone 3GS if it is not likely I'll be here for 2 years? 1 year is more likely.

here's what I've gathered, would be curious to hear other thoughts.

    Three
+you recoup all your prepayment if you actually do fulfill the 2 yr contract
-you get totally screwed if you don't fulfill 2 yrs

    CSL (buy iphone from apple.com)
+/- I looked at the iphone contracts, math is very similar to Three 2-yr contracts
    - maybe waiting period for stock on apple.com

    SmarTone (buy iphone from apple.com)
+ cheaper monthly plans (I see a 600MB plan for like ~$100 but not sure if this is useable with iphone)
+ less penalty for earlier cancelation
    - that blog posts that shows smartone is incredibly slow compared to Three

Re the thing about the Smartone speed, Vinko updated his blog with more recent data, and he seems to suggest that Smartone has the most consistent connection:

I have Smartone service for my iPhone, and I think the speed is great 99.5 percent of the time. Granted, I haven't compared it with 3.

I chose it because I could pay to break the contract. I also think their customer service is better.
