    Netbook Sim Card in Bangkok

I am not sure if there is such a thing in Bangkok but just wanted to check if any GE have any info. My misses has a Smartone Netbook which has a sim card in it, she wants to take it with her but doesnt want to get stiffed with roaming charges.

Is there a same sort of card she can buy in Bangkok and use it in her Netbook.

If not no worries, just means i get to use the netbook when shes not here.

You can get a Sim card in Bangkok in any 7-11. Refills also available. The part which is a bit more tricky is to subscribe for the data plan. YTOu need a *# number combination which requires a vendor code. I suggest go to MBK (Near Siam Square). The building has a whole floor of mobile shops and for sure someone will help you for that.
Just be aware: There is no 3G in Thailand. The fastest you can get is EDGE.

it'd be interesting to know if the modem in the netbook works on anything but 3G too... do they make netbook modems that work on 2G/2.5G? Obviously a cell phone does both, but a netbook modem? dunno.

I have a USB modem which works on 2G as well. I believe your netbook should, but am not 100% sure.

The card was pretty good - 250 bath for 7 days unlimited usage (2G / EDGE). Was perfectly acceptable for checking emails and banning the spammers on geoexpat

We got it in the arrivals lounge at the DTAC shop. (Blue shop front..)

The sales guy was nice .. he tested it and added all the settings to the iphone in a few mins time.

When are you leaving? I'll check if I have still kept mine - should have a fair number of local calling minutes (60?) and it is already activated. Can mail it to you if I find it ...
