    Where to get speaker stands

I'm looking for a pair of speaker stands to go with my simple but reasonably good stereo system- a Linn Classik with Tukan speakers. The Tukans are bookshelf sized speakers, but remarkably heavy at 5kg each.

Anyway, can someone recommend a place to find sturdy but inexpensive speaker stands? I've been to a few stores and have found stands for >$1000 which is more than I'm willing to pay for low tech chunks of welded metal.

I think it is the time for you to venture to the jewel of Hong Kong, Ap Liu Street.

Mong Kok MTR station exit E1 - Bank Centre. On the left, in the upper floors of commercial building as you exit, there's several AV showrooms that sell a whole range of speaker stands. It's the building with Bodyshop and Häagen-Dazs on the ground level - Sorry can't remember the name of that building.

Thanks all. The Yahoo link was useful- 450 is a little more sane for a low-tech product.

hkken/dtb, do the stores in Yau Shing cater to low budgets or do they tend to have 'audiophile' prices?

With several showrooms all operating on several floors of that commercial building I'm sure that there are some low budget stands available. But they specialise in AV equipment which can/does get expensive. Can't hurt to have a look!

If you are hard-pressed for time and want low budget. I would 2nd dtb suggestion as the 1st place to search in Ap Liu Street, Sham Shui Po. Since the rental factor is much less then in central MongKok. You can sometime uncover a gem in the rough there.

Remember the stands need to be gold plated oxygen-free titanium, otherwise you'll suffer a loss in audio quality.

Actually, I was thinking that using this product would negate the need to use gold plated titanium. Or maybe it would be better to use both, just to be safe.
