Gonna steal your thread a bit as you specified the demography & mentioned a game tailored to strategic minded people.

Official turn-based X-com remake just announced. It's being developed by same company that made the Civilization franchise.

Lets hope the next one will be the Star Control franchise.

I haven't gotten round to getting Starcraft 2 but I've been watching the Starcraft 2 pro scene very closely over the past year and it's been incredibly interesting. If there was ever a Barcraft here I'd so go.

Also I saw that X-com remake recently it looks quite promising. Much better than that terrible looking third person thing they're trying to push.

You should play instead of watch. But be prepared to get raped by 15 year olds. I heard they have tournaments in tuen mun. Not sure about the details or whether it's still ongoing. It was an opponent who told me about HK scene. Doubt it's big though. Hardly ever see people play sc2 at i-one.

I agree aftermath/afterlight is horrible. They're made by different companies and their target audience is not us. I get the sense that you have to be a certain type of people to like a certain game. Ie. FPS/race is a group. SC2/Diablo/strat gamer/RPG is another group. Obviously the second group is superior in every way.

I know I should and it's always been one of those games I've been meaning to get but the competitive scene is just so daunting I get put off each time. In all honesty I'll probably do what I do with every other RTS game I've played, just play the single player. =p

I enjoy good fps games. Half Life 2 was an amazing game. But that was a good 4-5 years ago. Must say something about the fps scene these days. I played a fair amount of the Halo games with friends in university. But that doesn't really have much to do with the game itself but rather the fact I'm playing something with friends in the same room. I got very good with counterstrike condition zero and source too but that's a story for another day.

I woudn't really lump strategy games with rpgs though. I think better grouping would be the casual gamers, console gamers, PC gamers and just general hardcore gamers. I generally lean toward the last as I enjoy pretty much any game with the exception of racing and football games.

The people who only play Facebook games disgust me. =p

Oh shoot. Blizzard holding starcraft tournament event in Shanghai.

This is the first time starcraft tournament is holding at such close proximity to HK since the game came out. I might go.
