    Samsung Smart TV

    Hi there,

Just got a Samsung Smart TV, UA40D6600WJ.
Anyone can tell me if you can buy a wireless keypad to go with it when you surf using the Smart TV.

I was told you need to get a Samsung Phone and download the apps to use it as a wireless keypad when you surf using the Smart TV. Any other options?

    Thanks for the advice..

You may be able to control it from any Android based phone.

Does the TV support bluetooth keyboards?

I would expect all the Samsung TV functions that run on Android to require the Samsung application layer to be installed (Touchwiz) which is only available for Samsung Android devices.

According to my colleague, you can control the TV from the phone, as well as watch TV (from the TV) on the Phone (while within your home LAN)

Thanks Rob2020 and Shri for the feedback, TV doesnt come with a Bluetooth function and i was told by Samsung need to get Android phone to control it as they dont sell the wireless Keypad in HK..

After installing NOW TV, most of the channels is not on full screen with both side "black out"..so my 40 inch TV became a 30' or maybe less

What could be the cause? Due to the source from PCCW or i did not set my TV correctly?
Sorry if my Q are a bit silly is am am not a tech guy....

keyboard issue, consider galaxy y pro ( qwerty keyboard budget android phone) for your keyboard, pricey option, presumed at HK$2000ish
however, a older samsung galaxy 551 ( maybe harder to get) is a type of phone for your usage, better layout, double check with samsung to see if it works

check the setup on your nowtv box for 16:9 as it appears to set on 4:3 ( if possible)

Note that a widescreen (16:9 or higher) TV is useful only when watching HD channels. Standard TV channels are 4:3 and should be watched with black bars on the side. Luckily HK has HD channels, both on air and cable.

I dont have a NOW box to test with but I am assuming you are subscribed to and watching HD channels. In which case set the box to output HD (1920x1080 or 720p) and you should fill up your screen

Most nowTV channels are plain old 4:3, so setting the output to fill the screen will stretch the picture and cause even more distortion that what is already present in the signal.
I leave mine at 4:3 to watch normal programming and accept the black bars, although I seldom watch nowTV anymore and prefer DVD or BR rental so I can watch what and when I want, with no ads and with excellent quality.

A check on the setup box does not give me any option to set to 16:9, tv already set to 16:9 and a call to PCCW technical went 20 mins unanswered....
@Krypton, barely 10% of the channels on NOW are HD......
@Raccon, i subscribe to now as i watch most of the sports channel there and the 2 black bar at the side is almost 1/4 of my TV width which is a bit too much for me i thought..
Anyway to rectify this or minimize the "2 black bar'??

What are you using to connect the box to your TV?
