    Ikea Uppleva.

Great concept. Wonder how good the TVs and sound systems are. Actually, my first thought was the opposite . . . how bad will they be . . .

At this point in time I wouldn't either, but TV's are well on their way to becoming computers . . . a machine assembled with a bunch of parts from third-party manufacturers. The "assemblers" only need to buy quality parts and keep up some decent QC standards. Specs and price. Price and specs.

They don't sell everything in all markets so this may well never come to Hong Kong. Besides, how the fuck do you self-assemble a telly?

With a soldering iron, a bottle of whisky and lots of patience.

With a soldering iron and a bottle of whisky around that TV is never going to get assembled.

i presume this will be for the aestetically pleasing market and not for tech savvy market as the manufacturer for the TV will be TCL (who taken over thomson brand a few years ago), i doubt the tv will be very good.

I never like IKEA and certainly I won't buy a TV from them.

Even the concept isn't that appealing IMHO, just think about what happens if the TV or other components break down and aren't repairable or replaceable (discontinued ...) or you want to upgrade - then you have to change the furniture with it because the new item may not fit in properly (or not at all).

If that bottle of whisky is big enough, the TV will never be needed.
