has anyone seen the new wii mini ( cheaper, smaller and simplified wii but cut down of features such ethernet and gamecube compatibility) with simple push button lid from games (not far from new cech4000 ps3 super slimline)

when will microsoft release their slim down machine?

just wondering, what aspect of the wii u interest you? do you think the tablet controller will revolutionise gaming? are you expecting social/casual gaming like on the wii or a big advance in visuals against current gen ps3/x360 on core games?

BTW, the internet feature on wii was actually rather pointless ( i note that very small proportion of wii users even used the internet feature on wii as there is few online games) only wiiware games and virtual console downloads was the useful feature

The current slim is meant to be the final retail model before the new console is unveiled next summer or in 2014.

Frankly any hardcore gamer will buy a console for its capabilities and not for how small or compact it looks.

yes, agreed, throughtout history, plenty hardcore features cut out on later models, firewire link on ps2 slim, rgb output on snes jr, but new slimline model during latter part of the product lifespan usually designed for tertiary target market, (psp e1000 model, wii mini) with cut down features, in wii sense, there are a lot pre-school/junior age education games for this market, ie, udraw, nickelodeon, etc.

What interests me the most is the core high-quality Nintendo titles that you can bank on: Zelda/Pikmin/Mario/Smash Bros./... As was the same with the Wii and all the consoles before it. For your information my favorite game of the past gen consoles was Zelda Skyward Sword with a unique visual style that beat any graphics of actual current-gen HD consoles imho.

It does seem the Wii U will attract the popular ps3/Xbox developers as well if you look at whats available at the Wii U's launch titles, and comments from the developers.

I have not seen any features cut out on the 360 and MS has always been upgrading by way of ports etc based on user input. I was discussing this with one of the senior guys at Konami recently and his response was that these "scaled down" and in some cases cheaper versions were made for very casual gamers who were likely to give up on it in a few weeks.

I think the next gen will be similar to steams distribution system where most of it will be download only. This will kill piracy & the secondhand market but will increase the price of games here to roughly $60 US which is close to US prices. Guys I know who collect games are buying up as many old games as they can on sale as they think that this might be the last 13 months that we see games released on disc

What interest me is that the Wii U has 1080 HD, 3rd party games and I can still use my Wii games with it. The 8box and PS3 never let you play the older gen games. + I'm more of a nintendo fan, with Zelda and Mario. And 3rd party games could still continue to make its way to the Wii U. Which is a + side for me. And scenes they say it could be link up with the 3DS, every single dollar will be worth to get it
