I get audio through HDMI if plugged to TV no problem as was working with a basic HDMI switch before.
I have gone back to using the switch and will try and use normal audio cables to route the audio through the receiver.
Just a reminder, the small NOW box is hooked up to the Magic box via HDMI which then outputs to the receiver.

Just done a check via using the one optical cable I have. It works on the ATV, PS3, NOW box but not the magic box.
Gone through the settings of the magic box for audio output but no joy.

I presume you mean optical input DAC as oppose to commonly available usb dac

specialist audio places such as yau shing building in mk, prosperity building in nelson street, expect from minimum HK$700 plus to HK$20000, probably better option as hdmi to component which will have analog rca, cheaper at from HK$350 plus

something like this as in usb dac

    this is what you need

but surely the cheapest way is apple tv to tv via hdmi, then analog rca output ( most modern tv have it nowadays) to your speaker or analog/hifi amp

you wanna plug apple tv hdmi to projector but separate the audio, then a hdmi to component video will be a cheaper way of doing it, if you projector has hdmi, more than likely has component, component video ( only video cables, green, red and blue) and analog to the amp/powered speaker
