Chromecast is just fine for Netflix. HBO Go is fine too.

Just a note: if your device is streaming thru a vpn or dns, you will not be able to stream to chromecast.

With "just fine" you mean stable HD quality? So with a router with dns it's not a problem to stream Netflix/HBO Go I assume you mean?

HD streaming is works, but I'd say 80 percent as stable as a Roku.

Related question: has anyone replaced a pccw router with their own for vpn purposes? I have the 300 service and it's fiber in to their Huawei excuse of a router.

It is incredibly convenient for people to use, especially with non-latin texts. You can play videos, music, etc from a laptop, tablet, or phone, no need to be limited by pointing a clunky remote at a box.
