Any one used a Roku (US origin) in Hong Kong

A relative in USA just offered to send me over an extra Roku Ultra that they have. Does any one have any experience to share using the American Roku unit over here in HK? Do most things work without a VPN or is it not worth the bother of getting one shipped over.

I have a Roku. It will work with YouTube, HK Netflix etc. The content from the US will be blocked without a VPN

Most of the VPN providers do have tech support docs or live help to guide you through the process - highly dependent on the router and the types of connections supported by your VPN provider.

What Shri said and often Netflix knows which IP addressed are VPNs and will prompt a message that the Netflix service is not available while on a VPN and to disable the VPN.
