    Standard Chartered ATMs ...

Quick poll .. do the Standard Chartered ATMs in whatever branch you use, accept cheque deposits?

I'm curious, given that our branch in Aberdeen does not have a single cheque deposit machine AND the cheque deposit box is only unlocked and opened during branch hours.

In this day and age, the bank staff has been trained to shoo away customers who try to deposit cheques a few mins before the bank opens. Their line ... "you can mail the cheque to us".

They dont have any cheque deposit machines. This was one of my complaints to them when I moved from HSBC.

I even went to deposit a cheque at a branch last saturday morning and the person over the counter would not accept it saying they only accept Mon-Fri. But they did keep the cheque and promised me they would deposit for me today and then mail me a receipt.

I guess they just dont like cheques. Its kind of the opposite of HSBC who love and encourage cheques and discourage people from using internet banking by charging $30 everytime you do a local transfer online. SCB dont have these charges that HSBC have.

There are not many cheque deposit machines in my experience. Usually I go to the counter and deposit - there's no or a very short queue, so not really a problem.

With some machines you get an envelope to put the cheque in, and then you feed into the machine. However, sometimes the machines accept cheques, then the next week, the same machine is not accepting (maybe run out of envelopes?). I think in Central I have seen machines that scan your cheque and show it on the screen, then print out the cheque image on your receipt. Those machines are cool, but there are not many around.

They removed all their ATMs that accepted cheque deposits earlier this year. Makes no sense at all. Have been banking with them for over 20 years and their service has deteriorated.

Yes, but maybe a year ago when I used it (and rani's post explains why I don't see them now). I think it was the branch on Queen's Rd Central.
