day trip to Shenzhen to open bank account

I plan to take a day trip to Shenzhen to open a bank account. The information I have received is-

Can foreigners open an account in China?
Yes. Foreigners can easily open a savings account at most banks in China.

What do foreigners need to open a bank account in China?
At most banks you will only need your passport to open a bank account in China

Can anyone verify these above details?

I dont think a China address is a requirement - at least not for HSBC.
I was in an HSBC branch in China recently and when they found out I was a Premier Customer in HKG, they offered to open a China based account for me along with a China CC/DC tied to the account; the only thing they wanted was a Passport.
(As I didnt need one, I politely declined their offer)

This is more from the article I read-

Opening a Chinese bank account is actually an easy process, not a nightmare for you as you might expect.

The only actual needed document for a basic account is your passport. You need neither proof of address nor proof of income.

Actually it is needed. But you can write the address of the "cough" "cough" hotel you are staying at...Or the bank staff will help you write it...No "address proof" or anything like that...
