    Credit card promotion hotline RANT!

So I'm a sucker for promotions.

    [start rant]

But WHY OH WHY does Hong Kong persist in making it SO hard to take part in them?

I have a naive view of these promotions ... I thought they they were run by the credit card companies to make us "feel good" about our credit cards, encourage us to use them and generally generate awareness about the card / its benefits etc.

My experience is the opposite ... they generally leave me feeling like strangling whoever designed the promotion and cutting my card into little bits... so ... PROMOTION NOT ACHIEVING ITS OBJECTIVE EH???????

Today it was the turn of the American Express cathay pacific amex lucky draw.

I get an email this morning extolling the virtues of the lucky draw. All I have to do is ring the number and register my card. So I pick up the phone and ring then number. BUSY SIGNAL. Redial. BUSY SIGNAL. Sit hitting redial while surfing geoexpat, slightly annoyed now but ok. Finally get through. Yeah!

It needs my card number ... yes, obviously... guess I better grab the card .. just over there... but wait! Too slow.... you only get a second or so to enter the card before it beeps and tell you it was the wrong number and hangs up after the second failed attempt. Now I'm REALLY MAD.

So I send an email to the return email address telling them so, which bounces (no communication desired here obviously).

So then I start a thread on an expat website to diss the promotion.

OBJECTIVES OF PROMOTION NOT BEING MET ARE THEY???????

    [rant over]

If everyone got the same email this morning perhaps many tried to apply all at once, jamming the system?

I had to get another Autotoll tag a couple of months ago and bought it at Esso with the promise of 100 dollars in fuel vouchers and a free car vacuum cleaner valued at over a hundred dollars!!

Anyway, the vouchers have just arrived, nobody at Esso knew how to use them!! I rang them about the car vacuum and was told I need to collect it in person with the introduction letter from head office in Kwun Tong. Now I had to go to Kwun Tong last week so I popped in...after what seemed like forever and included input from high level management they finally presented me with a battery powered 'hoover' that could fit in the palm of my hand, no way it could be used for a car - rubbish!!

It might be a bit busy due to just receiving the email and everyone is trying to register. Try again later.

[I sound like a customer service officer]

Personally I think you need to calm down. Go out and get a coffee. While having the coffee, take a few deep breathes and take your mind away from the CX Amex promotion.

This afternoon, once you have a cooler head, try registering again.
