    HSBC annoys my client!

i have a french client who hires my services regularly - perhaps 6-8 "man" days for my staff every month.

this has gone on for 4 or 5 years..

approx. 4 years ago HSBC bounced the payments sent by international telegraphic transfer..

    hmm strange we thought,,

any way it happened again last month ( actually since he's a long term and trusted client we limit transfers to once a quarter )

Even tho the details havent changed on my account ( well apart from office address - and the last change there was 3+ years ago )

any way they bounced it so many times he ended up with a 350 euro bill - he's still annoyed even tho after I suggested he complain - they refunded him...

says I should change banks or something? or use pay pal?

I think the glitch is that becos my company name is very short ( one four letter word!) -maybe people are tempted to embellish or use my name instead of the company name..

I went to the HSBC and asked they said the company owners name is not necessary and indeed it did come thru - ( altho I don't know if Monsieur Fuddy-duddy did as he was asked in the end )

any one else have trouble with this? I'm thinking about using my personal account - since it would have one less field to fill in maybe..

maybe I should just re-assure him - or is pay pal that easy ( plus I dont wanna pay any fees! )

The name on the account has to match the name on the transfer.

If the account is a company account, it should match exactly. Same goes for personal accounts.

Chances are that the guy at the other end added your name "Company A / Mr Audiot" or misspelt it?

This happened to me because the branch code of the bank I deal with was left off even though the name of the branch and the actual address of the branch and all else was right.

They had my name exactly as on the account which Shri notes is absolutely essential in HK as they deal with so many duplicate Chinese names and they had all else required including my actual account number. Deducted some HK370 dollars for their trouble.

I was told that the processing for this was likely done in the mainland and they go by exactly what that they are told. Clearly there was no escalation for someone to see that this transfer had occurred in the past from this same person to me and how it was unlikely to be anyone but me.

    Account Name:

    Bank:

    Bank Code:

    Branch Code:

    Account No:

    Bank Address:

    SWIFTCODE:

So your client doesn't put the correct details in and you blame HSBC??

HSBC don't use branch codes for international TT, certainly not for commercial accounts. Swift code, account name, account number and address (which is always HSBC building) and that's it.

the reason I blame someone is becos we have both been doing the same thing for years - and yet they still manage to #uck it up! its not like we randomly fill in the forms..

seems some pleb some where has appended or ammended the details - and then we get hit with the charges..

    HSBC HK SWIFT code: HSBCHKHHHKH

Add to this the account number and account name.

You really don't need to add any other information for a TT to be processed via SWIFT.

Are your french clients using an online template or filling out paper forms for these transfers to you?

"They had my name exactly as on the account which Shri notes is absolutely essential in HK.."

Well, when I wire money from abroad to my private account in HK the names do not match but are somewhat close. I sign a letter of indemnification and that's it.
It happened two or three times already. Perhaps it is just HSBC being a little less flexible.

I have found HSBC to be extremely inflexible with regard to the details being perfect. For example, they rejected:

    A Citizen

    My Account name is

    A B Citizen

60HKD return fee and that was me transferring to me :-)
