    question for bankers

    hey finance experts! are you aware of "clearing code" for international money transfer? Any bank which use it? Asked HSBC but they don't know it...

    thanks! I'm bit confused because my insurance in europe is supposed to pay doctor's bill directly transferring the money to his account. They told me to ask for the clearing code at doc's bank due to save the transfer costs EUR to HKD. HSBC (doc's bank) explained they don't know any clearing code and transfer cost will occur with any code...

    It depends on the branch & account type.

    For example I have always used this swift code for HSBC: HSBCHKHHHKH

    (1 Queen's Road Central, branch)

    Ask your doctor which branch his account is located at and if its a personal or business account.

    thank you emx! I have the bank contacts of my doctor. pretty sure it's his business account. will ask him to add the SWIFT code though.
