Cool HSBC Unionpay fiasco - PLUS is coming back!

Great news everyone, HSBC have (finally) listened to their customers and are bringing back PLUS !

    http://www.scmp.com/business/article...-plus-atm-card

" the good news for HSBC customers is that the bank is working on bringing out an alternative ATM card which will use the Plus payment system.

An HSBC spokesman told Lai See: "Our people are working very hard on this and hope to make this new card available within a few months."

Suggest you ditch HSBC for another bank that doesn't charge for foreign ATM withdrawals, like Citibank or SCB.

Standard Chartered gave me the option of a PLUS or UNIONPAY atm card 4 years ago when I switched over to them from HSBC.

So, what disadvantages are there in selecting Union Pay ove Plus? Does Plus charge more for overseas withdrawals?

    UnionPay doesn't work everywhere.

Plus - more locations, more expensive.

    UnionPay - less locations, cheaper.

Moving to SCB or Citibank - free!!!

Does anyone else check the back of their ATM/credit cards each time there is a post on this? I can never remember which has what.

    ATM - Maestro/Cirrus/EPS/Jetco
    Visa - Plus/Jetco
    MasterCards - Cirrus/Jetco
    Amex - Nothing

    See?!! Memory bank overflow!

Claire - why do you keep your Amex? I'm constantly considering to cancel mine (I will if they charge me annual fees), I'm running out of reasons to keep mine (15% off at the cinema doesn't really do a lot for me)

Perhaps I'm old school but I never use ATM - I carry cash, it works everywhere and has much lower fees associated with it.

I think that SCB only gives you free overseas withdrawals if you're a... Priorty(?) member. Or whatever the equivalent of HSBC Premier is.
