Are HSBC really that bad? I have had an awful experience with SCB...lost cards, unable to get a credit card, terrible customer service even for the priority service. I just want somewhere I can easily open an account and get a credit card

I think I have to agree with TB... the level of sophistication and care we get from our customer services from banks really isn't great.

May be with a small caveat though: like in all big companies that MUST have a large workforce and therefore can't be too picky about who they hire, there are also always a few good people who will be able to help you efficiently. Once you found this gem, stick to him/her. And you don't need a "premier" account for this. I'm not saying it's easy, but it is doable if you try to help yourself. Thats my take on this industry.

May be you have to ask for one at any branches. I have mine since Sep 2014.
