Yes but it will literally take MONTHS to clear. They post them to thw uk or something stupid. We had an Australian cheque once and getting cleared funds was a nightmare. Thwy also charge a whopping fee

i don't mind the waiting time but the whopping fees is another story. How much are we talking about - is it a % of the amount? thanks!
No it was a fixed fee. A few hundred hkd if I recall

It has been a very long time ago that I asked and HSBC had 2 options: To send the cheque for collection or to buy the cheque. I don't remember which one, but the cheaper option had only 50 HK$ charges. You would need to go and ask for updated information.
If it's just one cheque they probably won't buy it and will send it for collection.
The charge these days is HKD 100 i believe for the cheque purchase.
They buy our check(s) regularly.
Depends on how long you've had that account and the average balance.
We did have a lot of problems 12-13 years ago when the account was new. Don't have any problems now.
They usually buy ours too but refused the other week when it was 2 USD cheques drawn on taiwanese banks
Trebor - those I assume would need to be sent to Taiwan to clear?
Not had problems with USD from US banks once we passed some magical threshold.
