HSBC charges a fee to deposit cash

Tried to deposit $10k USD today and was told that there was a usd70 charge for cash deposit over $7500.

Is this a standard practice with banks in Hong Kong?

I guess you'll need to be making two deposits in that case

Sigh...I know, but doesn't that just create more work for both the bank and customer?

Oh please TB, stop trying to blind us with facts.

That is what is on the official HSBC website, implying this will have any bearing on what will actually happen when you walk into a branch is disingenuous at best. We all know you would have to walk into 4 branches, speak to 7 "customer service" assistants, 2 managers, 1 doorman before anyone would utter anything close to the facts....and that one person is usually the doorman.

For example HSBC, everything exceeding 200 bills. Unless you raise a stink, then they'll make an exception "this time".
