Non-local student opening bank account in HK

Hi, I will be studying in HK for about a year and I need to open a bank account for wire transfer (tuition, house rent, international from parents, etc.).
Which bank is most ideal for students? (Card: Visa or Union pay)

    Thanks a lot!

Union pay is not as widely accepted. Go with visa or Mastercard.

Master / Visa are good. But once you will be accustomed to Octopus, you wont use Master / Visa in Hong Kong. Octopus card is a prepaid card widely used in all stores and transport system.

Just Google Octopus card Hong Kong and you will see more information.

I don't think you can get a credit card in HK for studying for just 1 year.

Most ATM cards issued by HK's banks nowadays are primarily JETCO and Unionpay, which enable you to use the ATM card at shops in HK, Macao, Mainland China and overseas as well.

Visas, MC and Unionpay are now all widely accepted in most HK shops. Unionpay is much much more widely accepted than others in Mainland China.

I had some problems opening a bank account after I arrived in HK. A few banks refused to open an account for me, not sure why, but ICBC bank did also you have to have $6000 to open an account there.
