Standard Chartered "Simply Cash" Back Credit Card

Happened to see this in my newsfeed...

Might be of interest for some of you.

Standard Chartered Bank introduced a credit card with cash rebate discount as its highlight, with 1.5% and 2% rebate for HKD spending and foreign currencies spending respectively.

But does the Visa Sig have cash back? I thought this was a new product and they tagged the Sig dining benefits to the offer.

Interesting welcome offer. 100% cashback up to $1000 for new SC customers. So every single one of you who is not a SC customer now can get free $1000. Get the card, spend $1000, ditch it. Free $1000. What kind of marketing geniuses came up with this welcome offer? Why are you people sitting around on your asses, sign up for the card now. What, you don't want free $1000?

Also cool there is vertical card option now.

The HSBC one is similar, although my understanding is that it has a lot of 'categories' and offers different levels of cashback for different types of spending etc which is all too much for me. Maybe through your research and analysis you have identified that you are getting something close to 2% back with this card, but most 'normal' people wouldn't have a clue what they are getting back.

This new SC card looks like its for idiots like me. You get 1.5% back on local spending, 2% back on overseas, and thats it. It's a no bullshit card and pretty simple to understand.

SC have until now been heavily promoting their Asia miles card which I have but this is another bullshit card which I have no clue as to the real value I am getting back, and these days I dont even want to fly with Cathay much so the value of the Asia miles is less for me and they expire after a couple of years so I have to keep buying stupid clock radio's or USB keys from their website to avoid expiring the points. So I am tempted by this no bullshit card. Oh and its a vertical card too. It will go nicely in my wallet with my Iron Man ATM card.

@bdw - +1 for every time you manage to drop the Iron Man card in any post.

Saw this offer today for the "Blue Cash" card from American Express. Fact that it is an Amex card might restrict your spending to a smaller set of merchants.
