Power of Attorney to use at HSBC

    Hi,

My friend (who is currently outside of HK) has a bank account at HSBC HK, he wants to close the account and send the remaining balance to another account of his. He asked me for help.

What kind of document do I need so that HSBC branch could help me when I go there?

Would "Power of Attorney" (prepared at his local Notary Bureau in English and DHLd to me) be enough?

    Cheers.

Best would be to ask HSBC.

Here is a good starting point for you to learn what might be acceptable and possible for someone overseas.

In my opinion, given clpsing am account is not as important as taking funds out.

Just talked to them via online chat. It seems basic operations (check balance, transfer money, etc) can be done with Power of Attorney.

On the other hand, closing the account requires the account owner to be physically here.

Don't get a POA without first asking HSBC what form and wording they require.

You do not need to close the account once funds have been removed.

Also, this person does not have online banking in this day and age?
