I got the BoC Cheers card too, mainly for the 2 airport lounge visits for year 1 - Let's see about year 2

Yes that 5k minimum is a bit of meh

I'm still using my DBS Eminent card for dining, 5% rebate capped at 8k spending per month (i.e. 400 max), and minimum HKD300 per transaction.

My HSBC Visa Signature is selected for overseas spending to meet the Travel Guru points

Seems BEA World Mastercard is the next best for dining 4% rebate, monthly cap of $11,111, no minimum

thanks. the first past the gate thing turns me off... abit surprising that those website didn't highlight the biggest no no... BEA used to have this promotion that they closed to new card members after 1 month (before i collected the card which i applied due to the promotion)...

that said.. maybe ccb does not have that many cardholders so can actually still get it registered...

Although it's a debit card, not a credit card, I think it's useful to add the HSBC World Mastercard Debit in here. I used it recently on a trip to India, and I can confirm 2 key benefits:
    * there is no 1.95% forex charge, so the HKD price is 1.95% better than what the same transaction would have been on a credit card
    * (for Premier Elite) any ATM fees levied by the overseas bank on cash withdrawals are waived/refunded (for example, HDFC charged a INR200 fee, which HSBC swallowed).

In addition there is 0.4% rebate immediately credited on purchases (not cash withdrawals, obviously). So if what you want is cashback this card is equivalent to a credit card offering 2.35% on foreign currency transactions.

So it's a no-brainer to use this as my default ATM card for overseas use, and it's not bad as a general non-HKD payment card.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the Citibank Octopus public transport rebate 15% apparently has increased to 4k spend per Calendar month. I say apparently because they claim to have sent me a text msg last July but I never received it. And I've been spending 6-14k every month but of course the bills don't go by the calendar month and according to them I've only hit the 4k spend once in the months since July. Just a heads-up as I know this is a popular card

I assume online except if you go to a physical HKTVmall and pay.

actually that post a good question.. these days some restaurants are asking you to scan a QR code at the table and pay via your mobile phone on the bill that appears... is that counted as physical or online purchase? might be vague. nobody will let us know.
