Sorry I may be late to this, but is it worth linking your cards to Cathay Pacific and earn miles? I suppose there is no downside...

Reading through, sounds like you need to manually tell them that you prefer points every time, and it's limited to just a few (and expensive) restaurants, at HK$4/mile.

HSBC Signature w/ RHRYC as Dining is HK$2.78/mile, which IMO is the better (and more simple) deal.

This is true, but you can get both - it's not either/or.

So after all the chopping and changing going on, here my tentative strategy for 2025 (which will probably change has the year goes on lol)

    In HKD / HK
    1. Online - HSBC Red [4%] (up to HKD10k a month) - watch out for CFT (Cross-border Currency Fee in HKD)
    2. Restaurant - HSBC Signature [3.6%] (up to HKD100k a year)
    3. AAVS - SCB Simply Cash [1.5%]
    4. Alipay bills - SCB Simply Cash [1.5%]
    5. Everything else - Mox [HKD4-1AM] (have to keep HKD250k in account)

    Abroad / foreign currency
    1. Online - HSBC Red [4%] (up to HKD10k a month)
    2. Mox - [HKD4-1AM] (have to keep HKD250k in account)

    Points to note:
    - I've opted to keep Mox earning AM because at present Mox card with AM doesn't attract any foreign currency fee or CTF
    - I have the HASE MMPower card but its hard to predict when I will reach HKD5k a month on online or foreign spend
    - I may consider getting the HSBC Everymiles card if it runs the HKD2-1AM promotion for overseas spend

    Great stuff, thanks!

Is HSBC Red 3% for overseas online now?

Just to flag that with keeping HKD250k in Mox I am missing out opportunity cost of earning interest on that money in a TD etc. So something to factor and consider.

Wondering if you've considered the BoCHK Cheers card? Seems like that card is quite unpopular here in this forum. The Cheers card (VISA Infinite) is a 4% rebate and $1.5/mile so wouldn't it be a better choice?

On a side note, has anyone else had experience with this card or BoCHK cards in general? I've recently had a new card issued (card only customer) and the BoCHK app kinda sucks. Unlike the HSBC app which instantly shows your credit card transactions, the BoCHK app only deducts your credit limit and doesn't actually show your purchases nor your gift points. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me?

PS: new to the forum so may have hijacked it for my app tech problem

The 4% is only on Dining and Travel, and if you accumulate HK$5000 in that month. Also I think it is not super clear how waivable the annual fee is.

I've used BoC Chill Card for McDonalds / IKEA, and also for free movie tickets at Cinearthouse since its near me (1+1 on Saturdays IIRC).

BoC Taobao Card has 0% FX fee, so sometimes I use it internationally if they don't take AMEX (I don't like Mox).
