I read these two threads, kind of want the same thing but like to take a different approach.

Attend a few local Linux/PC/sysadmin/sig users groups, get to know who's who in the zoo, may be uni grads in their final year. To start with , one to two days a week. Long term, the company will offer him/her a full time position. It is a FT role now, the current guy is so wishy washy users just ignore him most of the time. It's just basic support stuff, rebuilding/reimage PCs...etc, nothing major really.

Will this approach work ? If so, can anyone suggest a few Uni, Users or industry groups ?

Thanks
