Hmmm...usually they halt trade as a precursor to some kind of major announcement. The question is what kind of big event is going to come? Cathay's desire to fully merge Dragon into CX's fold was put off by the CAAC for political rather than financial reasons. Has that issue been resolved and CX is now given the go-ahead to merge KA with CX? Is KA going to be sold off to Air China? Is Air China going to takeover Cathay entirely? Is CX going to announce bankruptcy? Swire selling off CX to Qatar?

Now the press is speculating a possible white knight coming in to rescue CX, which has lost HK$4.5 billion dollars in the first four months of the year.

Air China going to get a bigger stake in CX? CX going to sell KA to Air China?

Cathay’s management team on Friday met with the leaders of pilot unions at Cathay Pacific and its regional arm Cathay Dragon to brief them on condition of confidentiality ahead of an announcement expected on Tuesday, three sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.
    and

A fourth person said Hong Kong’s Cathay was poised to announce a new chief executive at Dragon along with some other senior management changes. The sources declined to be identified because they were not authorised to speak with media.

They ditch the HKExpress brand and fold KA into CX with Air China taking a bigger shareholding?

As long as some money flows in the direction of Swire ...

Otherwise this is a damp squib of a suspension.

Laughable - not authorised, and yet they are blabbering away

My guess was that Swire was bailing CX out - but seems not yet.
