I am not aware of all the intricacies of the various schemes, but AJ Bell does have one advantage (and this might be common across most providers... I am not sure and stopped investigating this at AJ when researching for the son).

This bit might be a good thing to look at if you're into high dividend etfs etc...

A W-8BEN form is not required for US investments held within a SIPP as the IRS recognises our SIPP as a qualifying pension scheme and all qualifying US dividends and interest are automatically paid to you free of any withholding tax.

So I'm trying to get to the bottom of the fees I pay in my UK defined contribution pension, which is with Scottish Friendly. Not a simple task!! I called them and they couldn't give me this information over the phone. They said they would "write to me" with the information I requested...

I find it hard to believe that in such a regulated industry the fees I'm paying are so opaque?!

The fact that they are making it difficult to find out the true expense ratios probably tells you all you need to know about the scheme.

Got an email today that AJ Bell are changing their terms so that SIPPs can only be opened by UK residents.

Seems doesn't apply to existing SIPPs though.

"We’ve made an update to our terms and conditions. We’ve added clause 24.1 to confirm that you need to be a UK resident for tax purposes to hold a SIPP with us. This clause only applies to customers who are opening a new SIPP or Junior SIPP with us. For a Junior SIPP, it applies to both the parent/guardian and the child."

    Saw this. Such a shame.

I was reading through this post and now devastated to learn that AJ and Vanguard are now only available to UK residents. Any other alternatives? I guess transferring UK DC pension to MPF is not possible?

There are a few other options, but not many. If I have time I will send links. BTW Vanguard has always been UK resident only as far as I'm aware.

For pensions, or investments outside of pensions? For the latter there are other options, eg IBHK account and invest in Vanguard ETFs.
