    buy HSBC 005 now?

Hi, I have a little bit of money to invest--just enough for minimum shares for HSBC. I have never really bought stocks before but am looking to start slowly saving for retirement (am in my early 30's now). Just wondering what people think about buying HSBC stocks at the moment (and probably continue to do so over time) to begin a portfolio.

Stock is down slightly at the moment (87.00).

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

if this is really for your retirement, then don't buy one single stock. i would rather buy ishares index tracker funds (if you really want to put all money into equities)

Friday was the time to buy for short term gain...That train has already left the station.

Yep - back to 90 now.

But in answer to your question - while I would not necessarily endorse a single stock strategy, if you want to go this way, HSBC is the one to buy (in my opinion anyway). Currently my tax payments are sitting in HSBC shares - a pretty risky proposition (Friday was interesting!) but still interesting.....They give good dividends and fair value at the moment (although those rights issued shares - woohoo - they were great).

Irrelevant post given that the OP is looking at investing for "retirement" as opposed to short term gain.

My post was only relevant to point out the irrelevance of yours.

As for the OP if he is planning for retirement, having some HSBC shares is one source of possible investment.

If the OP is looking for very long time, that the shares are at 87 or 89 now should not matter too much (even if of course the cheaper you can get the better)

As enlightening as telling the OP he should have bought earlier for a quick profit (while he as clearly asking a totally different question)

There is nothing much to say about investing in HSBC shares since it is a pretty safe bet (if that really exists) and since he is looking for long term it is one rather good option.

why cant you just admit that your post was off the mark and was not providing any interesting feedback or comfort to the OP?
