One more question, as I am a pain. I noticed that tax reduction last year was around 23,000 but the proposed reduction this year is 6000. Why is there such a difference, and when will the actual reduction be confirmed or is it definitely 6000?
    thanks

It's definite, and it's just politics I guess.

I don't think I explained my situation very clearly after reading "First Taxation" thread. So if I had no plans to leave HK, I would pay my first ever tax payment (arrived in august) in January 2010 (75%).

However, as I am leaving July 31st, I will surely pay all tax owed from August 2008-July 31st 2009 before I leave.

I think I was confused with the tax return, and mistook it for meaning I have to "return" the tax owed for 2008/09 year in April.
Can you confirm that I am a confused individual?

    Thanks

Yes - "tax return" refers to the form which you need to complete regarding your earnings for each tax year.

I think your understanding as now stated is correct. If you remained then your first tax payment (in Jan 2010) would be 75% of (actual tax for the period August 08-March 09 + estimated tax for the period April 09 - March 10).
