    I know. They gave me a letter saying I'd better not lose it again or I could have a lot of paperwork to fill in. Last one was over 2 years ago... I'm learning!

    Next time just ask him to remind you in future. He appears to be a capable PA.

    600 is a compound offer for 1st time late submission. If you pay it, then the IRD will not issue any penalty for late submission of tax return. However, in general, you can write a letter to IRD requesting to waive the compound offer. They may agree to waive it (for sure depend on the reason you stated in the letter).

    If you ignore this compound offer letter, and you also submit late in 2nd year, they will offer you compound offer 1,200. If you ignore this letter again and being late in 3rd year, you will get penalty for late submission.
