NY State Taxes / Recommendation for Expat Tax Consultant for US/NY State

    Hi,

I will be moving to HK in September. I understand that for 2011, because I haven't lived in HK for a full year, I will be subject to US federal and state taxes.

For 2012, if I reside full year in HK, would I be subject to NY state tax if I maintain bank accounts/credit cards/mobile phone with bills sent to a NY address?

Would anyone be able to advise a good tax consultant I can talk to about this so I can make proper arrangements before I move?

    Appreciate your help greatly,
    Amy

You will forever subject to US federal tax (if you are US citizen or Green card holder) and NY state tax (if you do not break the NY tax residence).

For 2011, you should file NY resident return for Jan to Aug and NY non-resident return for Sep to Dec. On the form of NY non-resident tax return, please read carefully if you meet the condition as non-resident (as I understand credit card, phone number, bank account to your correspondence address wont stop you to become non-resident).
