    Housing Allowance and Tax Equalization

I am considering a move from my NY based law firm to its HK office. Out of curiosity:

    1. What are people getting as monthly housing allowance now? I'm particularly interested in those in the financial/banking and legal fields. If you moved here awhile ago, please state when, I understand that with some companies the housing allowance has gone down (even though it looks like rent is slowly creeping up in HK). Please also state if you single, married, with kids etc. It will help put things in perspective for me and determine if I'm being shafted.

    2. How many American businesses tax equalize in HK? Meaning, whether you are taxed like you were working in NY and not in HK (a major disadvantage). Again, interested in those in financial/banking and legal fields.

BTW, out of curiosity, does anyone know if I have a permanent HKID, should I bother getting international health insurance?

    Cheers.

Most of the local residents that I know also have insurance. The govt medical system is pretty decent, but really not suitable for someone who values their time.

For example, if you have an eye problem, the average wait for a specialists appointment would be about 2-3 months. (This did happen to my father-in-law)
