    Paying taxes before I leave?

I'm going to be leaving Hong Kong soon, and my last day at work will be at the end of the month, followed by a flight out a few days later.

Someone told me that I will have to pay / file my income taxes before I get on the plane. Does anyone know if that is the case? I thought I had until August or whenever they were due to settle it.

Yea, basically confirmed what I feared--I have to pay it all before I pass through Immigration at Hong Kong airport. Not the end of the world, but certainly not something I expected right now (I was planning to leave in a few months but it got accelerated, and thus, so too did my tax bite).

Anyway, if you are here kind of temporarily, please keep this in mind should things wind up.

Well yes, but because of the way taxes work here, at the end of March you should have essentially paid all the tax you owe anyway (unless you had a significant increase in salary in the last tax year).
