Didn't receive tax form from employer

I have searched through the forums but I cannot find the right way to ask this. Sorry if it's a duplicate.

I left my employer in January and they have apparently closed down their Hong Kong office. But I haven't received the paper tax form with a statement of earnings (I think it's IR56F?) and it's almost time to file the tax return.

Can I go ahead and file my taxes without this form, just by adding up the numbers from my payslips? Is there another way to access the form? (I thought it might be available via eTax but I cannot find it.) Or do I absolutely need a copy of the form?

Just file your return without the form. I work for 2 organisations. One gives me the IR56M mid April, the other issues after the decline to file (they are a shambles but that is another story)

I just send a covering note saying that I have not received the form from the organisation.

Unless its a small outfit that has abandoned shop and run away, they should still have a functioning auditor and company secretary. IF and only IF you know who they are, ask them.

(It is not trivial to shut down a ltd company.... assuming you do it properly)

What meinhkhk says is the most appropriate way forward. Make it IRD and your ex company's problem by adding the covering note.

If you're filing online (you can login with iamsmart too), and employer actually did fill the form, you will see the numbers there pre-filled (you just need to put your job position and MPF deductions).

As usual, thank you everyone for your help. I did finally get in touch with my ex-employer but they just sent me a copy of each of my payslips, which I already have... So I suppose I will go the "covering note" route.

They should have sorted your HK tax when you left... unless you are a local.
