Business Profit Tax -- "Assessment" vs. "Notice" Demanidng tax

    Hi all,

I started a business in the middle of 2023/24.
I filed for profits tax for the first time and got TWO payment notices, so a bit confused.
    - 2023/24 had small loss
    - 2024/25 had profit

I got two slips, with one day apart, in very similar amounts
    - "Assessment Demanding Final Tax for 2023/24 and Notice for Payment of Provisional Tax for 2024/25"
    - "Notice Demanding Final Tax for 2023/24 and Notice for Payment of Provisional Tax for 2024/25"

Is it correct that I ONLY pay the "Notice" demanding tax?

    Thanks!!

    That's a bit weird?

The assessments I receive do not demand any payment be made - instead they give me one month to challenge the assessment before it becomes a final calculation of the tax for the relevant financial year.

The notice which follows is the document which demands that the stated amount of tax be paid.

Is the file number etc the same on both documents? If so, I'd pay the amount in the notice. Alternatively, you could call the IRD and ask.
