Tosca Reno (a well known nutrition and exercise expert) claims that body composition (fat loss) is 80% diet, 10% genetics and 10% exercise. I have to agree. You can exercise all you want but if you take in more than you burn, you will gain weight (paraphrasing Jimbo). I spend hours at the gym weekly and yes, it's good for my cardiovascular health and all that, but to see the results of my hard work, I have to adjust my nutrition.
you cant beat Running/Jogging when it comes ot weight loss.
suggestions:
1. at least 4 times per week slow running. distance in beginning not important. Regularity is more critical so that it becomes routine.
2. try to replace meals with protein shakes. And yes, not all are yuck. add fruits when blending to have taste variety. papaya is good to make you feel full.
3. eat dinner early i.e. at least 4 hours before you sleep.
4.eat fruit at 10am and 4pm to bridge gap between meals to keep blood sugar level level stable.
5. try this for a month to see measurable effects.
Cheers
its what you eat and how much you eat with some good exercise 3-4 times a week.
Diet control is one of the hardest but recently I lost 6kg's in one month by being on a strict diet from Eat right. I never felt hungry given their portions of food and the variety and I had breakfast and lunch delivered to work and dinner to home. Six days a week. Well worth a try.
Once you do this for a month you realise its all about portion control, cutting out the crap and going low on carbs at night.
Eat Right
Measure what you eat. If cooking yourself, weigh EVERYTHING and then use a calorie counter (look one up online) to figure out how many calories in your meal. If eating out it's harder, so try to cook for yourself for a while until you get a feel for how many calories are in everything. Write it ALL down for a few weeks and compare to what you are burning (exercise plus basal metabolic rate, you can google that to find yours). What you find when you do this is where your weaknesses are - what it is that is causing you to gain weight. For me, I was cooking meals with double the "normal" amount of pasta in them, just because I never measured what I cooked.... (among other things). You don't want to go on any stupid diets - protein shakes and the like, are completely the wrong thing to do. YOu want to figure out how to live a normal life, eating sensible food, without over-eating and gaining weight. For that, you need information. So, get yourself informed and then you can work out a strategy.
I agree with all the points about exercise above too - but whatever you choose to do, make sure you ENJOY it, otherwise it's not sustainable!
One of my friend is using acupuncture in conjunction with the chinese herbs... it's working on her... I just saw her last night (have seen here at least 3 months) and she looks great, not the tiring no energy type but very vibrant...well give it a try...
