Where can I buy raw milk in Hong Kong?

They don't have regulations that force dairy farmers to pasteurize their milk, right? Why can't I find any raw milk?

If I can find raw milk, I'd pasteurize it myself using the batch pasteurization method (heating it up to 65C for 30 minutes instead of 72C for 30 seconds),

Raw milk is illegal in Hong Kong, they only permit pasteurised varieties which most of them have been imported into Hong Kong, pre pasteurised/packed from Australia ( Pura ), Malaysia ( Greenfields ), USA ( California sunrise ) etc.

Farm Milk Co is the milk that we buy which is is pasteurised in the New Territories of Hong Kong and have never had cause for complaint after 4 years having deliveries from them. Consistently excellent, makes a mean latte.

Speak to Kevin if you want to know more, if you want to know about their HK government regulated production/hygiene process.

    Yep - Cap132AQ Milk Regulation
No person shall sell for human consumption any milk or any milk beverage which has not been heat-treated: (L.N. 259 of 1977)
Provided that nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent- (78 of 1999 s. 7)

    (a) the sale-
    (i) of milk by wholesale to a milk factory; or
(ii) of milk which is to be used as an ingredient in any other article of food which requires cooking after the addition of the milk before it can be consumed; or
    (b) the possession for the purposes of sale of any such milk.

The regulations don't seem to preclude personal ownership of a cow and personal consumption of said cow's lactation output... Perhaps the OP can look into owning a cow instead of having one.

Thanks for the info, guys. That's a bummer, but there has to be a loophole somewhere, I remember some dairy farmers label raw milk as pet food back home. Oh well, it looks like I'll have to continue drinking flavorless milk as I don't want to go through all the trouble for a glass of the good stuff.

    Price

I have a slightly different issue. I don't mind the taste so much, since I make Kefir out of the milk and grains work their magic even on powdered milk (not that it would be anything other than my last resort...). The issue is price - I can easily go through 1-1.5L of Kefir a day, which can run up fat bill at the end of the month.

Are there any cheaper UHT alternatives to local milk and if yes, where to buy?

Miss the $5/L from back home... (Ukraine)

You can buy Full Cream UHT Milk from Indian Groceries in Chung King for $11-12 per litre.
