    "Hungry Korean" or any alternatives?

Been craving some Korean food that is not the usual Arirang style barbeque or fried chicken and have had Hungry Korean randomly recommended to me as a decent enough fast-foodish type option.

Anyone got any first hand experience / alternatives around Kennedy Town <-> CWB area?

    Korean here.

Han ga ram in QRE plaza is probably the best in the specified area. They have a number of provincial dishes that typically don't show up on your average HK Korean restaurant (which in general are quite poor). Han ah rum in CWB is also decent.

As a rule of thumb, if the restaurant charges for banchan (i.e. the small side dishes that come gratis with your meal usually including several types of kimchi, cold seasoned vegetables, etc) or refuses to give you more upon request, you should go elsewhere.

@tf19 - thanks for that. Will add to the list of places we go to for Korean.

Any comments on this Hungry Korean place for a quick / cheap meal?

Seoul Recipe and Zanchee are much better for a fast casual Korean meal.

Edit: rationale: I’m familiar with the owners of both places and I am impressed with their commitment to keeping recipes authentic as well as using products (seasonal if available) from Korea including foraged veg and other natural ingredients.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good individual Gamja tang (army stew)? Everywhere I go is usually a big pot for two or tastes bad

Are you referring to gamjatang (pork spine and potato soup) or budae jjigae (army base soup)? Either way, they are typically large format meant for sharing. It's sort of like ordering a personal sized pizza - you can technically do it but most restaurants would rather sell you a large pizza as the labor and fuel costs are relatively static no matter what the size of the dish.

For something similar and served in individual portions, I would recommend yukgaejang which is a spicy soup of shredded beef and veggies. Almost all Korean restaurants including Seoul Recipe and Zanchee have this on their regular menu.
