I suggest Man Wah at the Mandariin Oriental. Very high end Cantonese plus Peking Duck but if you avoid drinking alcohol it's manageable.
Interestingly, my posts about stereotypes about local food and people's aversion to it before even trying it have been removed, while your post describing local food as disgusting has been kept. It says a lot.

Those seeking 'safe' Chinese food (given how picky you are) will find plenty of choices, such as Peking Garden and Jardin de Jade, that won't cost the earth. Man Wah is way overpriced in my opinion.

Just goes to show, how 2 dimensionally vanilla, majority of people out there, really are.

One of the many great things about being married to a prominent local Hong Kong family, for me, was being immersed into the food culture and prefer to base my opinion on experience.

Do we have to get married to a local to accept their culture? Not necessarily. It all depends on what your values are. The members of this forum should have extensive experience with local food, or should have had ample opportunity to do so. People who have tried many different foods and do not like them are not closed-minded. If they refuse to even try them, then they are.

I agree with this sentiment.. try whatever is offered but refuse to accept crap because of cultural sensitivities.

Have tried chicken feet, blood, spinal cord, turtle, snake etc .. but I find nothing glorious or edible about most of it (snake soup was good.. but it was a bog standard hot and sour base). same experiences in the west or places like Japan and even India.

After a while though .. you go fuck it based on experience. Some shit does not taste good because it's wrapped in bacon. My old arse self would tell my 20 something self .. not worth it..

I'm guessing there are also no Thai natives here.. because I was really expecting someone would pop up to protest the implied universal chicken feet cultural claim @kungpaochicken :p

I like chicken feet but I don't eat the pale ones in Thai cuisine :x Food these days is a tough one to be discussing cultural discrimination or plain ol close-mindedness because the whole thing has just taken on a completely different lifeform with all the organic, vegan, nutrition stuff - what ppl are willing to put into their mouths nowadays is almost the new mainstream religion..

I mentally lol at ppl who will eat chicken breast over other chicken cuts. If they are asian or even worse chinese, I mentally scoff and look down cuz they should know better.. meat must come with or near a bone to be the tastiest..

Yep, and soon we will be eating meat grown in labs, and there are people who fear chicken feet. They are probably the same people who still call Asians 'orientals'.

There's nothing exotic or 'oriental' about blood really. Black pudding is everything in the UK. Also, turtles and snakes aren't any more exotic than snails and frog legs.

    I didn't know oriental is now a sensitive word, when did this happen.. ;_;

I'm still of the view the chicken feet/offal comment is more to do with eww some type of food stereotype and little to do with cultural discrimination.. cuz a friend once asked for food recc in UK and said pls no fish and chip places and nothing too local for Scotland, no haggis pls..

I recommend hotpot for OP, local, not common back home and weather still suitable..

    The OP asked:

'I was wondering if anyone has top places local, western and high end that they reccomend for their family or western friends when they come to HK.'

    Thread tuned to trash.

    Another recommendation:

The Chairman, Sheung Wan. You won't be disappointed!
