Moving, thats what I read on the form once, just dint want to take my chances, as I dont want to end up spending hours explaining to them and/or bribing them.

Last trip to India (in Feb), had one spare mobile, one iphone, one blackberry and one laptop in my hand luggage.

    Didn't have any problems.

    blackberry

I think you are thinking of old dark days of Indian customs.
Every one I know carries more than one phone. I carry one, with Indian Sim card & one with HK Sim card.
My daughter just returned from Mumbai. She had both Blackberry & her mobile.
Do not worry. You should have no problem.

Will it be safe to check-in my blackberry in luggage as I wont be using it anyways till I reach India or carrying in handbag wont be a problem? I will need my personal phone at HK airport and India airport.
If not safe, what are my alternatives?

Even if they stop you can get away by paying a small bribe<<

I thought this bribery ended in the late 90's.

You need to fly into BLR on an international flight.

There is no problem at all with carrying 2 phones in addition to BB, digital cameras, laptops as carry on luggage. This was in addition to tons of jewellery that was part of our carry on. India is very liberalized these days and none of these are issues. There has been a huge improvement in terms of domestic and international travel into India.
